"La Báscula is the Spanish enterprise of whirlwind wine-meister Bruce Jack of Flagstone
(and now Kumala) and Ed Adams MW. Their passito-style Moscatel comes from the excellent
Bodegas Gutiérrez de la Vega, and is a heady cocktail of citrus peel, raisins and spice,
pepped up with vanilla and honey."

"The Casta Diva wines are an exceptional, honeyed expression of the Moscatel grape."
Turret Fields 2005 (DO Jumilla)
Tom Dorley, Irish Times February 2009

Bronze Medal 2007
“Warm spicy fruit, integrated oak and ripe tannins.”
90 points Wine & Spirit Magazine October 2007
"Not content with creating eclectic wines in his native South Africa, Bruce Jack of Flagstone, with
help from English Master of Wine Ed Adams, is now at work in Spain. Here's their spicy,
berry-laden debut, full and rounded (like Bruce) but with a little Old World restraint (like Ed) - braai heaven."
Weekend Telegraph top 50, June 28th 2008
"A beautifully textured Syrah/ Monastrell (aka Mourvedre) blend made in the craggy Jumilla highlands of south east Spain by Master of Wine Ed Adams and South African maverick Bruce Jack. Packed with spicy fruit, it's built for long, lazy tapas lunches."
Irish Independent, 2nd February 2008
"Lashings of plump black fruits and touches of strawberry, with lots of spice, but a smooth
character and a good length."
Decanter Magazine February 2009, 50 best value reds
"The kind of big red the word “gutsy” was designed for… adds seasoning to bold, spicy foods."

5* top rating on Decanter website August 2009
“ Lovely perfume on the nose with aromas of red berry fruits. The palate is robust but fresh and harmonious and has elegant black fruit concentration... "
Jack Scott of Jascots wine merchants
“ The Charge ~ this is not one of those lovely, soft, ethereal fireside wines that are so close to Rioja-lovers’ hearts and the traditional style of Tempranillos that gently ease down the roast beef on Sunday and then add to the jollity of a WW2 black and white War Movie with Trevor Howard and Sir John Mills “giving Jerry a damn good thrashing”, but, one of the new fangled styles of wine with a modern spin and interpretation.
Few wines have impressed us and many have singularly failed like fishes out of water
But, maybe it’s the men behind the wine, the legendary South African wag and fantastic winemaker, Bruce Jack and sober, intellectual and Master of Wine Ed Adams, have joined forces to make THE CHARGE. This is very much more a polished New World style of Rioja than the matt-coloured, velvety Old World lovey.
Ferociously and uncompromisingly jam-packed with luscious, spicy, curranty juice, bold, leathery spice and overbrimming black and red fruits bombard the palate like a Cavalry Charge. It’s massive and focused and incredibly impressive for an inexpensive wine and a wine that should be enjoyed with the heartiest of winter foods on a freezing day and, if done like that, it’ll warm the cockles for a good 12 hours!"
